You are making an offer on a 2 Ventana Discovery Units located in the USA. This lot is being sold "as is, where is." We recommend that you contact an EquipNet sales representative to set up your own inspection.
The Discovery units are advanced platforms for automating the principal slide staining activities involved in target and compound drug discovery. The instrument assists with the major activities performed by biotech and pharmaceutical companies involved in discovering new drug targets and compounds. Discovery automates many of the hands-on steps involved in:
1. Processing DNA microarrays to identify genes of interest in target diseases.
2. Confirming gene involvement by staining tissue and/or tissue arrays to detect mRNA expression levels.
3. Identifying drug targets by staining tissue and tissue arrays to study protein expression encoded by disease related genes.
Each instrument performs insitu hybridization staining on up to 20 slides. The units are used primarily in histology labs, independent research labs, medical research centers, drug discovery laboratories, pharmaceutical laboratories and biotechnology laboratories.
The Discovery instrument consists of 4 components that work together.
Personal computer and its software.
Staining module.
Automatic fluidics module with air compressor.
Waste module.
The Discovery is a unique concept hybridization instrument featuring total walk-away automation from the moment the slides and reagents are loaded to the end of the staining run, when process slides are removed. By performing time consuming, repetitive target hybridization, in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry techniques under controlled conditions, it minimizes technique-dependent errors, saves technologist time and increases reproducibility and productivity.
The system can accommodate a variety of substrate, cell or tissue preparations. It is effective for target hybridization on miccroarrays, ISH using DNA, RNA or loigonucleotide probes, FISH and IHC procedures on animal and human tissue or cells.
The 4 Discovery instruments can perform ISH staining on up to 80 microscope slides at a time. A separate staining protocol can be specified for each slide. The staining protocols can be derived from three different procedures:
Research ISH blue open
Research ISH blue
Research FISH
The instruments know which stain you want to use for a slide by reading the bar code label you affix to the slide.
You can use as many as 100 different reagents at a time. Once the slide and reagent bar codes are read, the instrument then knows when and where to apply each reagent. This information, in the form of a protocol corresponding to the slide bar code label, comes from the Discovery software running on the personal computer.
Slides and reagent dispensers are positioned using motor driven carousels. A mechanical arm actuates a reagent dispenser positioned over a slide at precisely the right time. These and all other mechanical functions within the staining module are controlled by electronics internal to the staining module. Pressurized air is used within the staining module to mix the fluids on the slides and actuate various valves, cylinders and nozzles.
Once the staining module has received instructions from the personnel computer and completed its initialization it will run autonomously until all sides are stained.
The system consists of the following:
Four Ventana Discovery Units -
Staining module serial numbers:
810044
810048
810258
810260
Fluidic Module serial numbers:
820143
820194
820229
820149
Two computers with Ventana Discovery software
Two monitors, two keyboards, two mouse’s
Two HP ink jet printers
Two label printers
Access manual and parts
Ten – 20 liter plastic containers
Staining Module
The staining module processes the slides. It contains a microcontroller board that enables it to run autonomously once it has received instructions from software running on the personal computer.
Automated Fluidics Module (AFM)
The AFM provides pressurized liquids and air to the staining module. It contains an air compressor and the bulk fluid supply bottles.
Waste Module
The waste module houses a 20 liter waste bottle that receives waste liquids through a drain fitting on the staining module. It contains a sensor to detect the fluid level in the waste bottle. It includes a pull out shelf as an additional work surface.
Personal Computer
The personal computer runs Discovery software on a Microsoft Windows platform. It connects from one to as many s eight staining modules by a communications cable. It supports the reagent registration probe. It uses a CR_ROM drive to upgrade the Discovery software. Reports are produced on a color ink-jet printer. The computer comes equipped with a zip drive that is used by the Discovery software for backing up files.
Ventana will service the instruments. A service agreement is also available through Ventana.
