4.3.2 Function description, mechanical interface Cooler is designed for a throughput of 400 cups / minute. System consists of two vertical buffers, isolation hood, evaporators and vans. First buffer contains 24 levels, second one 28. This results in a maximum throughput of 26.5 carriers / minute for the mechanical part of the system. In spite of cooling equipment is limited to 400 cups / minute. In feed temperature is between 75°C – 70°C; desired discharge temperature between 25 °C +/- 2° C. Achi evable cooling time is max. 20 min. In feed level is at 1156 mm; out feed at 775 mm. Overall height of cooler: approx. 4800 mm 4.3.3 Control interface Required data (like cooler temperature) for different products is selected by operators by choosing defined recipes at operation panel of the line. All mal function messages are also shown at operation panel of line control. Cooler itself has no other interfaces than to Gronemeyer machines. Brief description of functions 4.3.4 Brief description of functions (Gronemeyer Vertical Cooler) The Vertical Cooler consists of an elevating tower, a lowerating tower and a top conveyor as well as an infeeding and a discharging conveyor. These components represent the conveying system. Elevating and lowerating tower consists each of two opposing chain drives with two roller chains each. At these the product taking angled rails are mounted. On an inserted ceiling on top of the conveying techniques the evaporator units incl. the ventilators are located. These components represent the internal refrigerating system. The complete installation is covered by an insulation hood and is situated on a machine basement. Air-conducting metal sheets systematically guide the air along the products.
Groups of 5 carriers each will arranged on the infeed conveyors. Two groups form a layer within the Vertical Cooler. After 10 carriers have reached their position in the Vertical Cooler they will be lifted by a pitch of 3” within the elevating tower. The infeed conveyor will be again free for the next two groups.
In the elevating tower 24 layers fit on top of each other. After a stroke movement the supreme layer will be shifted by the top conveyor from the elevating to the lowerating tower. Two transfer elements serve for a secure positioning in the second tower. After the carriers are passed over, they move downwards clocked within the lowerating tower. Here 29 layers fit on top of each other. With the last clocking the carriers will be positioned onto the discharging conveyor and drive outwards of the Vertical Cooler. Depending on the line’s situation the discharged carriers will be directed to the Vertical Buffer (see 4.12 and 4.13) for loaded carriers or they return underneath alongside the infeeding conveyor back in the line. During the stay into the Vertical Cooler chilled air is blown steadily through the products. The chilling of the air is realized by means of the refrigerating system on top of the conveying installation. Air-conducting metal sheets assure that the air streams systematically through the carriers.
