Equipment Description
Carl Zeiss Axio Observer 3 inverted microscope configured for live-cell and routine cell culture work in transmitted light, phase contrast and LED fluorescence. The stand carries a binocular/photo tube with a pair of Carl Zeiss PI 10x/23 eyepieces, a motor-free manual nosepiece and coaxial coarse/fine focus controls on both sides of the base (photos 1-3). The unit's nameplate reads Carl Zeiss Microscopy GmbH, Axio Observer 3, S/N 3860001068, part number 431004-9901-000, with a manufacturing date of 2021-04-13 (photo 13). Transmitted light is supplied by a HAL 100 halogen illuminator on the upright arm, working through a condenser marked Ph 2 / DIC, NA 0.35, WD 70 mm, so phase contrast and brightfield are both available (photos 2 and 8). Fluorescence excitation comes from a Zeiss Colibri 7 LED light source mounted at the rear of the stand, driven by its own bench-top control panel with B, R, V, UV, G, Y and CF channel keys and an LCD channel-intensity readout (photos 9-11). The Colibri housing carries a CE mark and UV radiation warning labels and connects by USB and a Lemo control cable (photo 10). The objective turret is loaded with Zeiss phase objectives, including LD A-Plan 20x/0.35 Ph1, 10x/0.25 Ph1 and a further 5x Ph1 objective (photos 5-7). A large mechanical stage with a black insert plate marked Front side/Vorderseite is fitted, with X/Y drive rods extending to the right of the stand (photos 2 and 4). A Hitech Instruments microscope service label is affixed to the illumination arm (photos 1 and 2). The microscope is shown installed on a laboratory bench and connected to a workstation. The Colibri control panel display is illuminated in the photos. Condition beyond what the photos show, and the presence of a camera, stage controller, computer or software, were not documented by the field rep and are not included in this description.
