Equipment Description
The INTEGRA Biosciences VIAFLO 96 is a handheld electronic 96-channel pipetting system for microplate work on the open bench. It is operated like an oversized handheld pipette: the operator grips the control handle and pushes the servo-assisted pipetting head to the desired position over the deck, so no position programming is required. The color display and touch-wheel interface on the handle are used to select pipetting modes and volumes, and a PURGE key is provided on the control handle (photo 1). The unit has a two-position bench deck, with the stage locations marked A and B (photo 1), allowing a tip box or reservoir on one side and a microplate on the other for reservoir-to-plate, plate-to-plate and within-plate transfers. Working volume is set by the interchangeable pipetting head; INTEGRA offers 96-channel heads in ranges from 0.5-12.5 ul up to 50-1250 ul, as well as 24-channel heads. The system uses INTEGRA GripTip tips, which lock to the tip fittings for reliable sealing and no tip loss. The nameplate on the rear of the column (photo 3) identifies the unit as Model VIAFLO 96, 100-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz, 400 W max, and carries a CE mark. The unit is shown on a bench with its line cord attached, a GripTip tip rack loaded on stage A and an INTEGRA tip-box adapter in place. No field notes on operating condition, hours or service history were provided, and the system was not powered up when photographed, so condition and function are not verified.
