Equipment Description
The Microm HM 550 P is a motorized cryostat microtome used for cryosectioning of frozen tissue specimens in histology, pathology and research laboratories. It combines a refrigerated cutting chamber with a motorized rotary microtome and a programmable electronic control system, allowing sections to be cut by motor drive or hand wheel with a digital display of specimen and chamber temperatures, section thickness and section counter. This unit is a floor-standing, self-contained cabinet with a cooled sectioning chamber, a hinged/sliding chamber cover and side membrane keypads for chamber and specimen head functions. The chamber (photo 3) contains the microtome with a knife/blade holder, orientable specimen head, and quick-freeze shelf with a specimen disc station plus a sectioning brush and blade. The nameplate (photo 4) identifies it as HM 550 P, Cat. No. 956424, Serial No. 35774, rated 115 V, 12 A, 60 Hz, with an R404a chamber refrigeration circuit (0.250 kg charge, 1900 kPa max pressure), made in Germany by Microm GmbH. The cryostat was removed from a biopharmaceutical facility. It stands on its own base on the floor and moves as a single piece; no separate compressor or external chiller is required. Overall dimensions are approximately 33 in L x 28 in W x 50 in H with an estimated shipping weight of 350 lbs. Operating condition was not verified at the time of the site visit; the display was not lit in the photographs.
