Equipment Description
The Precision Systems 5004 Micro-Osmette is a benchtop micro-osmometer that determines the total osmolality of aqueous samples by freezing point depression. It is designed for small-volume work typical of biopharmaceutical, clinical and research laboratories, requiring only a microliter-scale sample per determination, and it reports results directly in mOsm/kg H2O on a front-mounted red LED display. The front panel carries the familiar Micro-Osmette layout: COOL and READ indicator lamps, a three-position sample/standard selector (I, II, III), a range switch offering the 0-2 and 1-3 ranges (covering roughly 0 to 3000 mOsm/kg H2O), and a CAL / RUN / SPEC mode switch for calibration against standards and for routine running. The sample well and stir/freeze head are exposed at the front of the sloped housing for loading the sample tube and probe assembly. The rear panel bears the Precision Systems Inc. (Natick, MA) data plate reading 110V, model 5004, made in USA, with a 3A/250VAC fuse holder, an ADJ-A adjustment and an IEC-style power inlet. The unit is a compact, self-contained benchtop instrument that operates from a standard single-phase laboratory outlet and is hand carryable. Condition was not documented beyond the photographs, which show the instrument in place on a laboratory bench with the display appearing illuminated; no accessories, sample probes, standards or manuals are shown with it.
