Equipment Description
Stirling Ultracold SU780XLE upright ultra-low temperature freezer, built by Global Cooling Inc. (Athens, Ohio) and rated for storage down to -86 degrees C. The cabinet provides 27.5 cu. ft. (780 liter) of storage and uses free-piston Stirling engine cooling with a small ethane refrigerant charge instead of a conventional cascade compressor system, which is what gives the platform its low energy consumption and ENERGY STAR listing (ENERGY STAR badge on the door, photo 1). Setpoint and monitoring are handled through the touchscreen controller in the green upper console. The manufacturer's data plate on this unit (photo 5) reads: model SU780XLE, interior volume 27.5 cu. ft. (780 liter), net weight 625 lbs. (283 kg), exterior dimensions 78.5 in. H x 34.2 in. front-to-back x 36 in. W (1994 x 869 x 914 mm), input 120-240 VAC 50/60 Hz, maximum current 10 Amps at 120 VAC / 5 Amps at 240 VAC, maximum input power 1200 Watts, refrigerant ethane 3.2 oz (90 g), refrigerant pressure 490 psi at 25 C and 10 psi at -80 C. The plate carries both the cUL listing mark for ultra-low temperature freezers and a CE mark, and a stamped serial number and year produced. The interior is arranged with five shelves behind inner compartment doors (photos 3 and 4). At the time of the site visit the freezer was running and cold: the console display read -79 degrees C (photo 2). The interior and the inner doors show normal ultra-low temperature frost accumulation, and the cabinet was still loaded with the owner's sample boxes, bags and inventory (photo 4) - contents are not included and will be removed by the seller. The exterior carries the facility's own asset labels, biohazard stickers and a handwritten shelf-inventory sheet from the previous user. No functional testing beyond the running display was performed.
