Equipment Description
Stirling Ultracold SU780XLE upright ultra-low temperature freezer, a free-piston Stirling-engine -86 C laboratory freezer built by Global Cooling Inc. The nameplate lists an interior volume of 27.5 cu. ft. (780 liter), an input of 100-264 VAC, 50/60 Hz, a maximum current of 10 amps at 120 VAC (5 amps at 240 VAC) and a maximum input power of 1200 watts, with ethane (3.2 oz / 90 g) as the refrigerant. Overall dimensions on the nameplate are 78.5 in. H x 34.2 in. front-to-back x 36 in. wide (1994 x 869 x 914 mm) and net weight is 625 lbs. (283 kg). The unit is controlled from a color touchscreen mounted in the green top housing; in the photos the screen is lit and shows a Data and Setup page with a temperature setpoint of -80 C, PIN protection enabled and door defrost at 60 percent, so the freezer powers on and is running. The controller provides an event log and chart history for temperature record keeping. The cabinet has an outer door with green handles and insulated inner doors, and the interior is fitted with shelving; the inventory sheet taped to the door is laid out for six shelf positions. Photos were taken while the freezer was still in service at a biopharmaceutical facility: the interior shows frost accumulation on the shelves, inner doors and gaskets, and sample boxes and racks belonging to the seller were still loaded at the time of the visit. The cabinet exterior carries ENERGY STAR, biohazard and facility identification labels. No accessories beyond what is visible in the photos are represented as included, and no service history is available.
