Equipment Description
Stirling Ultracold SU780XLE upright ultra-low temperature freezer, an energy-efficient -86 degC ULT freezer built by Global Cooling Inc. using free-piston Stirling engine cooling rather than conventional cascade compressors. The unit is intended for storage of biological samples, reagents, vaccines and other temperature-sensitive materials in laboratory and biopharmaceutical settings. Per the nameplate on the unit, interior volume is 27.5 cu. ft. (780 liters), net weight 625 lbs. (283 kg) and exterior dimensions are 78.5 in. H x 34.2 in. front-to-back x 36 in. W (1994 x 869 x 914 mm). Electrical input is 120-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz single phase, 10 amps maximum at 120 VAC (5 amps at 240 VAC), 1200 watts maximum input power. The freezer uses ethane refrigerant (3.2 oz / 90 g) and carries UL Listed and CE markings. Setpoint is adjustable over roughly -20 degC to -86 degC. The unit has a color touchscreen display and control module in the green upper header, ENERGY STAR label, green exterior door handle and three insulated interior doors with green latch handles. The interior is divided by shelving into separate compartments; frost is present on the shelves and inner doors at the time of the photos. Serial number 19700-11014, year produced 2019. The freezer was photographed in service at an operating biopharmaceutical facility with the display reading -79 degC, so the unit powers on and was running at ultra-low temperature. Photos show biohazard and facility labels applied to the exterior; no shelving accessories, racks or boxes beyond the fixed interior shelves are shown.
