Equipment Description
Stirling Ultracold SU780XLE upright ultra-low temperature freezer, built by Global Cooling Inc. (Athens, Ohio) and rated for storage down to -86 degrees C. The cabinet offers 27.5 cu. ft. (780 liter) of usable storage and uses a free-piston Stirling engine rather than a conventional cascade compressor system, which is what gives this model its low energy consumption and ENERGY STAR listing (ENERGY STAR label visible on the door, photo 1). Per the manufacturer's nameplate (photo 4): model SU780XLE, interior volume 27.5 cu. ft., net weight 625 lbs., exterior 78.5 in. H x 34.2 in. front-to-back x 36 in. W, input 100-264 VAC 50/60 Hz, maximum current 10 A at 120 VAC / 5 A at 240 VAC, maximum input power 1200 W, hydrocarbon refrigerant (ethane, 3.2 oz), year produced 2018. Setpoint is adjustable in the -20 to -86 degrees C range on comparable units of this model. The freezer is fitted with the Stirling color touchscreen controller mounted in the green upper housing. In photo 2 the display is lit and active, showing a service screen with RTD-display -80 C, RTD-cold head -94 C, warm-head thermistor 43 C, engine voltage 117.0 V, engine current 3.5 A and engine power 360 W, so the unit was running and holding temperature at the time of the visit. The interior (photo 3) is a single upright chamber with full-width shelves and inner compartment doors at the lower level; frost and stored sample containers were present when photographed. The exterior shows facility biohazard and monitoring labels and a third-party wireless temperature-monitoring sensor. The unit stands on the floor on casters and is plugged in with a standard power cord; no plumbing or hardwiring. Contents shown in the photos belong to the seller's facility and are not part of the sale. Condition beyond what the photos show has not been verified.
