Equipment Description
Thermo Scientific KingFisher Apex Purification System, model 5400930 (REF 5400930P, Type 714). The KingFisher Apex is a benchtop magnetic-particle processor that automates the purification and isolation of DNA, RNA, proteins and cells from a wide range of sample types. Rather than moving liquid, the instrument moves magnetic beads between the wells of a plate with a magnetic head and tip comb, allowing walk-away extraction in 24- or 96-sample formats depending on the head and plate type installed. The unit is operated from an integrated color touchscreen on the front panel and has USB ports at the front for protocol transfer, plus LAN and USB (Host) connections at the rear. The nameplate reads 100-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz, 280 VA, CE and UKCA marked, with a manufacturing date of 2022-05-04 and serial number 714-800788. Approximate footprint is 26 in long x 22 in wide x 16 in high. Photos show the sample carousel and magnetic head assembly in place, with a head labeled "24 Combi" on the head park position. A separate accessory carton photographed with the unit contains a boxed Thermo Scientific KingFisher Apex 24 Combi head, a Dell laptop labeled "KingFisher Computer," USB cables and additional small boxed accessories; the field user confirms a computer is included with the system. The field notes record only that the computer is included; no information was provided on run hours, powering on or service history. A biohazard sticker is affixed to the front panel and the instrument carries facility asset tags. The unit was photographed sitting loose on a wire shelf with its power cord coiled on top.
