Equipment Description
The Thermo Scientific Savant SC210A SpeedVac Concentrator is a high-capacity centrifugal vacuum concentrator used to evaporate solvent and concentrate or dry many samples at once. Vacuum is applied to the sample chamber while the rotor spins, and the centrifugal force keeps samples from bumping or foaming, which makes the design suited to aqueous solutions and low concentrations of non-aggressive organic solvents in applications such as DNA/RNA precipitates, protein hydrolysates, chromatography fractions and sample prep for HPLC or LC/MS. The SC210A offers three selectable heat settings and accepts a range of Savant rotors for microcentrifuge tubes and microplates (no rotor is shown in the photos). The data plate reads MODEL SPEEDVAC CONC.-HI CAP., MODEL # SC210A-115, SERIAL # N27Z-446830-NZ, 115 V, 6 A, 60 Hz, YR 2014, made in the United States, and the chamber lid area is ported for an RC210 radiant cover. The system includes a Savant RVT5105 Refrigerated Vapor Trap, catalog RVT5105-115, serial 170136511, rated 115 V AC, 1 phase, 60 Hz, 13.0 A. The trap condenses solvent vapor in a removable glass condensation flask before it reaches the vacuum pump; its sealed mechanical refrigeration system cools to approximately -105 C, so no dry ice or acetone is required. POWER ON and READY indicators are on the front panel. Two rotary vane vacuum pumps are pictured with the system: an Edwards RV8 (code A654-01-906, serial 006650495, 27 kg) fitted with an oil mist filter, and a Thermo Scientific-badged VLP200 pump, also labeled RV8 (code NGA7-02-000, serial 169463702, 27 kg), which carries a tag reading FOR GEL DRYING USE THERMO SCIENTIFIC OIL-FREE GEL PUMP and a green PASSED ELECTRICAL SAFETY TEST sticker. The equipment came out of a biopharmaceutical facility and is shown staged on a pallet in a warehouse, with power cords coiled on top of the concentrator. No operating or service history was recorded at the time of the visit, and the unit was not tested; condition should be verified by inspection.
