Equipment Description
VWR CryoPro BR-3 liquid nitrogen cryogenic storage dewar, a vapor-phase/liquid-phase sample freezer used for long-term storage of cells, tissue and other biological specimens. The BR Series is a low nitrogen loss design built for box-based vial storage, giving medium to large laboratories organized, inventory-friendly cryogenic capacity without external refrigeration - the vessel is passive and requires no electrical connection. Published specifications for the BR-3 are a 121 liter liquid nitrogen capacity, a static evaporation rate of 0.99 L/day, an 8.5 in (21.6 cm) neck diameter, and a rack capacity of 5,000 vials in 50 boxes carried on 5 racks. Vapor temperatures near -185 C are maintained with as little as a couple of inches of liquid. The unit measures approximately 26 in diameter by 38 in high as configured, with an estimated shipping weight of 130 lbs. Photos of this unit show the aluminum vessel with its black hinged lid and carry handle, side lift handles, the factory warning placard and the VWR CryoPro identification label reading Part # BR-3, Serial # NPB2012490842-1305, Mfg. Date MAY 2013. The tank sits on a multi-wheel rollerbase for moving it around the lab, and carries a facility asset sticker marked "ALARM 82" along with a UN1977 refrigerated liquid nitrogen placard and a site refill-contact label. No racks, boxes, alarm module or transfer hose are shown in the photos. The unit comes from an R&D facility (field reference: Lifordi NH lot 27 - VWR BR-3 LN tank). The field user recorded no information on condition, contents or testing beyond the identification above; the dewar should be assumed empty and warmed for shipment, and vacuum integrity has not been verified.
