Equipment Description

Eppendorf 5430 R refrigerated benchtop laboratory centrifuge. The 5430 R is a compact microcentrifuge/multipurpose centrifuge for microtubes, PCR strips, conical tubes and plates, with an integrated refrigeration system for temperature-controlled runs. The nameplate on this unit lists a maximum speed of 17,500 rpm, 10,000 J kinetic energy, 1.2 g/mL maximum density and R404A refrigerant. Controls are by membrane keypad with a digital display, separate time, temp and speed up/down keys, rpm/rcf toggle, fast temp key, start/stop, short-spin and lid open buttons, and five programmable positions (prog 1 through prog 5). The unit is fitted with a fixed-angle rotor with a sealed rotor lid, visible in the open chamber in photo 1. Electrical data from the rear nameplate: 120 V, 50-60 Hz, 12 A, 1050 W power consumption, single phase, serial number 5428JN731430, made in Germany. The centrifuge is a self-contained benchtop unit with a rear rocker power switch and IEC power inlet. The unit was photographed on a lab cart in an R&D facility. A small hand-written label reading "PCV" is taped to the front panel. No functional testing was reported and no accessories beyond the installed rotor are shown in the photos.
