Equipment Description
MJ Research (Bio-Rad) PTC-200 DNA Engine Peltier Thermal Cycler configured with dual Alpha sample blocks for PCR and other temperature-cycled reactions. The Peltier-driven system heats and cools two independently controlled sample blocks, each with its own heated lid, allowing two protocols to be run at the same time on one benchtop footprint. The front control panel carries the DNA Engine numeric keypad with Select, Proceed, Cancel, Pause and Stop keys, an alphanumeric LCD for programming and run monitoring, Block Status (heating/cooling) indicators for blocks A and B, a Block key and an Instant Incubate key. The unit shown carries the Gradient Cycler badge on the front panel. Photo 3 shows both removable Alpha block modules installed, each a metal 48-well style block for 0.2 mL thin-wall tubes, with hinged heated lids. The rear data plate (photo 5) reads Model PTC-200 rev: D.A, S/N EN028064, rating 100-240 V, 50-60 Hz, 850 Watts, fuses F6.3A 250V, and carries CSA, FCC and CE marks. The rear panel also provides a parallel printer port and an RS-232 serial port for external control or data logging. The instrument is a benchtop unit standing loose on a bench in the photos and carries an end-user asset label ("Property of Amicus Therapeutics", photo 4). It comes from a biopharmaceutical facility. Power-on status was not recorded at the time of the site visit, and no accessories beyond the two installed Alpha blocks are confirmed in the photos.
