MJ Research PTC-200 DNA Engine Peltier Thermal Cycler

The MJ Research PTC-200 DNA Engine is a benchtop Peltier-based thermal cycler used for PCR, cycle sequencing and other temperature-cycled molecular biology protocols. It uses interchangeable Alpha Unit block assemblies that slide into the chassis, so the sample format can be changed without replacing the instrument, and it is programmed from the front keypad and LCD display using the Select, Proceed and Cancel keys. This unit is fitted with a dual-block Alpha Unit assembly (block assembly serial number on the label in photo 4), giving two independently monitored sample blocks with separate hinged heated lids; the front panel carries A and B block status indicators for heating and cooling. Photo 3 shows the two open blocks, one in a 30-well format and one in a 48-well format, both for standard conical PCR tubes. An Instant Incubate key is provided for holding the block at a set temperature. The rating plate on the rear (photo 5) reads 100-240 V, 50-60 Hz, 850 W, single-phase, with (2) F6.3A 250 V fuses, and the instrument carries CE and CSA/NRTL marks. Rear connections include parallel printer, RS-232 and IEEE-488 ports for external control and data logging. The instrument is a used laboratory unit removed from a biopharmaceutical facility and carries a facility property/asset label on the front bezel. It was photographed unpowered on a bench, so operation was not verified; no accessories other than the installed block assembly are shown in the photos.
