Strategic Asset Management: Baxter's $1.3 Million Redeployment Success

The Client

Baxter, a leading global healthcare company, embarked on a significant asset redeployment and sales project at their Opelika, Alabama facility. Renowned for its medical products, Baxter needed to efficiently manage the sale and redeployment of various high-value industrial equipment as part of their operational restructuring.

The Challenge

The project presented several significant challenges. The scope changed multiple times, initially involving a single move, which expanded to two separate moves just two weeks before the start date. This added considerable time pressure, as there was less than a month to coordinate and execute the first move. Concurrently with the primary project, Charles River requested assistance in moving furniture from their Northridge site to their Reno site, also with less than a month for coordination.

The Solution

To address these challenges, EquipNet developed a detailed project plan and assembled a specialized team of experts, including project managers, logistics coordinators, and technical specialists. The sales strategy combined direct marketplace sales and online auctions to maximize exposure and efficiency. A meticulous redeployment plan was executed, ensuring the seamless transfer of over 300 pieces of equipment to other Baxter facilities. Advanced logistics solutions managed the short pick-up turnaround times, providing timely and organized removals.

The Result

The project concluded successfully, achieving impressive results. Approximately $1,300,000 was generated from the sale of various categories of equipment, including injection molders, plant utilities, robots, packaging equipment, and inspection equipment. Despite the complexity of the removals, all equipment was dismantled and removed without incident, maintaining safety and operational standards. The entire project was completed within the 3-month timeline, meeting all deadlines and ensuring that the project stayed on track. Over 300 pieces of equipment were effectively redeployed to other facilities, ensuring minimal disruption to Baxter’s operations and redeployment savings of $950,000.
