Equipment Description
The Stirling Ultracold SU780XLE is an upright ultra-low temperature laboratory freezer with a 27.5 cu. ft. (780 liter) storage volume, designed for long-term storage of biological samples, reagents and vaccines at temperatures down to -86 degrees C. It uses Global Cooling's free-piston Stirling engine cooling system with ethane refrigerant rather than a conventional cascade compressor system, and is ENERGY STAR labeled for reduced energy consumption. Per the data plate on this unit, the freezer is rated for 120-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz, single phase, with a maximum current of 10 amps at 120 VAC (5 amps at 240 VAC) and a maximum input power of 1200 watts. Net weight is listed at 625 lbs (283 kg) and exterior dimensions at 78.5 in. H x 34.2 in. front-to-back x 36 in. W (1994 x 869 x 914 mm). The unit is UL listed and carries a CE mark, and was built by Global Cooling Inc., Athens, Ohio. The cabinet has a full-height outer door with two molded handles and three insulated inner doors with green handles, dividing the chamber into separate compartments served by stainless steel shelves. A color touchscreen controller is mounted in the green upper header and displays the chamber temperature and setpoint; the ENERGY STAR badge and Stirling Ultracold branding are on the cabinet front. The freezer was photographed in service in a biopharmaceutical facility, powered on and holding -79 degrees C on its display, with sample boxes and racks in the chamber and normal frost accumulation on the interior surfaces and door gaskets. Sample contents and facility labels shown in the photos are not included. No other condition or service history information was provided.
