Thermo Scientific KingFisher Flex 711 Magnetic Particle Processor

The Thermo Scientific KingFisher Flex (Type 711) is a benchtop automated magnetic particle processor used for extraction and purification of nucleic acids, proteins and cells. Instead of pipetting liquids, it uses a magnetic rod head and tip combs to move magnetic beads through a rotating carousel of plates, allowing binding, washing and elution steps to be run unattended for 24 or 96 samples per run. The system accepts interchangeable magnetic head and plate formats, covering a processing volume range of roughly 20 to 5,000 uL depending on the head installed (20-200 uL with PCR/standard 96-well plates, 50-1,000 uL with 96 deep-well plates, up to 5 mL with the 24 deep-well format). It runs on 100-240 V, 50/60 Hz single-phase power at about 175 VA, and is controlled from the onboard keypad and graphical display or from a PC running Thermo Scientific BindIt software over USB. Published overall dimensions are approximately 28 x 22 x 16 inches with a unit weight near 60 lbs. The photographs show the instrument on a wire lab cart with its clear carousel cover and rear housing in place, the front control panel with display, arrow/OK keys and START, PAUSE and STOP buttons, and what appears to be a power cord and loose items stored inside the processing chamber. Asset labels on the front read "KF3: Chickadee" and 711-85635, with a facility property barcode below the keypad. No magnetic head, tip combs, plates, computer or software were verified in the photographs, and the unit was not observed powered on; condition and functionality have not been tested.
