Equipment Description
The VWR Scientific Products 58816-115 Standard Multi-Tube Vortexer is a benchtop multi-tube vortex mixer (also sold as the VX-2500 analog model and manufactured by Henry Troemner LLC) used to mix, resuspend or extract multiple samples at once. Tubes, vials or small cylinders are clamped under the foam-topped platform head, which holds the top of each vessel while the bottom travels in a fixed 3.6 mm eccentric orbit to create a vortex in every tube simultaneously. Depending on the tube rack or head fitted, the platform can process up to roughly 50 samples per run. The analog control panel on the front carries two rotary controls, MOTOR SPEED and TIMER, each with a 1 to 10 scale and an OFF position, plus a three-position RUN / STANDBY / TIMER rocker switch for continuous or timed operation. Published specifications for the analog version give a speed range of 1200 to 2400 rpm with +/-25 rpm accuracy, a timer adjustable from 0 to 60 seconds, and a maximum load of about 10 lb (4.5 kg). The nameplate rates the unit at 115 VAC, 350 W, 50/60 Hz, single phase. The unit shown is the base instrument with its adjustable clamp posts and foam-faced platform installed; a standard power cord is present in the photos. The nameplate reads catalog number 58816-115, VORTEXER 945057, serial number 2495, made in the USA. No tube racks, clamp plates or other accessories beyond what is visible are included, and no operating or service history was recorded for this unit.
